According to “Variety,” Irish actor Ray Stevenson, who portrayed the cruel and dictatorial ruler of Delhi in SS Rajamouli's “RRR,” died suddenly on Sunday. He was 58.
There was no information provided on the death or its cause. Stevenson will be remembered for his part as Volstagg in the Marvel 'Thor' trilogy, despite being more recognized in India for his 'RRR' role alongside 'Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade' actress and Bond girl Alison Doody.
According to 'Variety', Stevenson started his career as a TV actor in the 1990s, then in the 2000s he started getting action parts in Hollywood movies.
He portrayed Dagonet, one of the Knights of the Round Table, in Antoine Fuqua's 2004 action blockbuster “King Arthur,” which was his first significant acting job. 'Variety' reports that in the movie, his character gives his life in combat to aid Arthur (Clive Owen) and his band of warriors.
The Marvel movie “Punisher: War Zone,” in which Stevenson starred as the eponymous mercenary, alias Frank Castle, was released in 2008. Before Disney bought the rights to the Marvel world and subsequently reintroduced the character in the Netflix series “Daredevil,” the movie was released in North America by Lionsgate.
Stevenson had a role in the forthcoming action-adventure limited series “Ahsoka,” a Star Wars spinoff called “The Mandalorian,” before he passed away. He portrayed Baylan Skoll, a former Jedi who fled into the Unknown Regions to evade Order 66. He serves as Shin's master and Thrawn's ally. His last part would be in this one.
