Sunil Gavaskar Supports a Break for Rohit Sharma in the IPL 2023 Following MI’s Loss to GT

FORMER Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar believes that Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma should think about having a vacation for a few games before returning for the last three to four games.

Rohit’s performance has come under fire after Mumbai lost two straight games against Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings. Gavaskar believes that taking a break would be the ideal option for Rohit to rediscover his form as the World Test Championship final draws near.

“I would want to see the batting order [for the Mumbai Indians] changed. Sincerity dictates that I would likewise advise Rohit to take a sabbatical for the time being in order to maintain himself in shape for the World Test Championship [final]. Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports, as reported by ESPNcricinfo, “[He can] come back again for the last few games, but [he should] take a little break himself right now.

“He seems to be little busy. I don’t know, maybe at this point he’s thinking about the WTC [final],” Gavaskar added. However, I do think that at this point he needs a little vacation before returning for the last three or four games to be in the right rhythm for the World Test Championship [final].

Mumbai Indians have had a rocky start to the IPL 2023 season, having suffered four losses, and their bowling in the dying overs has been a big source of worry. For MI to guarantee their participation in the IPL playoffs at this stage, a special effort will be required.

It will take a miracle, according to Gavaskar, for them to be eligible for the IPL playoffs. “Yes, they could theoretically finish [at number] four the way they are right now, but they will have to play some extraordinary cricket, both batting and bowling,” the coach said.

The Mumbai Indians will play against the Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
